Advanced Placement Microeconomics
The purpose of an AP course in Microeconomics is to provide a thorough understanding of the principles of economics that apply to the functions of individual decision makers, both consumers and producers, within the larger economic system. It places primary emphasis on the nature and functions of product markets, and includes the study of factor markets and of the role of government in promoting greater efficiency and equity in the economy.
The course is designed to introduce students to the field of economics, promote critical thinking skills for the real world, develop study skills and prepare students for the AP Microecomonics Exam. AP students may wish to take both Micro and Macroeconomics tests in May. This course, however, is designed to prepare students only for the Microeconomics exam.
The class will consist of lectures, discussions, individual and small group research projects, and debates about current issues representing different aspects of the field of economics.

Online Microeconomics Lectures
We will be utilizing online Microeconomics lectures that were prepared by college professors and distinguished AP Economics teachers. You will be required to watch these videos periodically throughout the semester. I will let you know which segments you should watch. A few will be assigned each week - sometimes, multiple lectures will be assigned on one day. There will be a short in-class quiz after a lecture has been viewed. The lecture transcripts are also available online to help you study. You will not be able to use the transcripts during a quiz.
REFFONOMICS
Reffonomics - www.reffonomics.com
Steven Reff is an AP Economics teacher in Tucson, Arizona. His philosophy on education is to help as many people as possible gain access to the fascinating world of Economics. Mr. Reff, along with his co-author - Dick Brunelle, has developed an interesting, entertaining, relevant, and interactive method to share Economics information with the masses. He manages to make potentially-complicated ideas seem obvious - while inserting his unique humorous perspective and making the content accessible to everyone. Instead of copyrighting his material and limiting the prospective audience, he has generously offered his classroom material at no charge to everybody with Internet access. This effort to share the fundamental lessons of Economics was made possible through a grant made by the Thomas R. Brown Foundation.
The mission of Thomas R. Brown Foundations is three fold:
1. To advance the use of economic principles in decision making by assembling and disseminating relevant and objective information through a combination of strategic partnerships, educational and training programs, public policy
analysis, and research.
2. To support educational programs that reduce barriers to opportunity and emphasize integrity, self
reliance, personal responsibility, and respect for the individual.
3. To support selected initiatives in southern Arizona that strengthen the basis for
prosperity and a high quality of life.
These goals are realized through programs that focus on civic responsibility and programs specifically directed toward expanding economic understanding.
